After the war was over, Harry searched frantically for Neville among the bodies when he couldn't find him among the survivors. His heart broke as the search proved fruitless. His lover was nowhere to be found, alive or dead. For months, Harry was inconsolable and then Neville turned up in his flat in the middle of the night.

Neville stood over Harry's bed, looking down at the sleeping form of his long time lover. He wasn't certain Harry would want that anymore, not now, not once he knew what Neville had become. It had been Draco who had turned him during the last battle of the war, Draco who had hidden him and given him shelter. It had been Draco to teach him the ins and outs of his new life, how to hunt, how to feed and how to make others like him. It had been Draco who had convinced him to seek Harry out.

As he listened to Harry breathe, Neville reflected that really, there was much more to Draco Malfoy than was revealed at first glance. Malfoy had been turned against his will by allies of the Dark Lord when he refused to ally himself with Voldemort. That had turned out to be one of Voldemort's greatest mistakes. Draco, fully empowered and vastly hungry after having been kept sequestered for a week had drained the wizards sent to fetch him. He'd then escaped to the Forbidden Forest where he'd watched and waited, aiding the side of Light as best he could in a manner that was virtually undetectable. ( Read more... )
